Poverty today is a global issue because it does not only affect certain area; it affects lots of people of all races all over the world. People today are so poor that they have to live in substandard housing and drink unsafe drinking water. Disease spreads easier with the poor unable to afford medical bills and an education. Death from poverty weekly is among the hundreds of thousands. These people do not deserve this, it just comes to them. If poverty continues to spread in Calcutta, the cultural capital of India as stated before, devastating consequences can occur. The world will lose an unaccountable amount of precious history as the people are the ones who pass it on, and if they die without passing it down or cannot have children to pass it on, much will be lost. We need to stop this unjust and torment of human rights. (Picture from//http://www.unitus.com/graphics/blog/Unitus%20India%20Bandhan%20Kolkata%20Alley%20850px.jpg//)

funds to enhance IPSL Calcutta's facilities. IPSL standing for The International Partnership or Service Learning and Leadership, is an organization that gives participants the chance to help poverty in India and learn about its history at the same time. They get to tour around India and go to many fascinating historical sites while giving direct care and education to street children, poor people, and old people. Goals
Our long-term goal is to earn at least 1,000rmb for donation to IPSL to expand their program over other parts of India, thus the rest of India can be reduced of poverty. In order to achieve this goal, we will organize activities that will motivate others in our school to donate; this is our short-term plan. The first activity is Kwai Per Day Week (KPD Week). During this week, empty water containers will be held in each

advisory in 8th grade. Each day of that week, students will have the option of dropping donations (in cash) into the containers of their own advisory. No 1rmb paper money accepted, and a maximum of 10rmb donation per day. Once 8th grade has donated at least 1,000rmb, a crazy hair day or a pajama day can be scheduled, with permission of the principal. The second activity is Hunger Day. This day will be scheduled on the Friday before KPD Week. On this day, students of 8th grade will have the option of eating rice and water. This will raise awareness of how it felt like for the poor in India who could only eat grains during the time of famine. Information about what they eat is from the article Food Security. Brochures that give information about IPSL and traveling to India to help the unfortunate people will be passed out. Students who would like to sing about famine in India would be chosen and prepare for this day. They will sing in the Food Court during lunch. When KPD Week comes, hopefully students will donate because of their experience on Hunger Day.
